  • Featured Ride 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This month we feature Alex Garza's 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Alex found the car online.
It was listed for a mere $1100.00 and after some careful negotiations, Alex finally got the car for $600.00.

Alex chose the Monte Carlo for a few good reason, first being it was the car he drove first as a young man and second being that many of his uncles had the big body Monte Carlo and Alex feel in love with them. After telling family members that he purchased a Monte, he said he would be building this for his mom and uncles and it would be in the traditional lowrider theme from the 70's and 80's.

Well after the purchase the car sat for about a year before Alex could even get to start on it. One morning Alex woke up and called upon an old Friend of his and the family, Edmund Frausto whom build some hydraulics systems for Alex in the past to work his magic for Alex one more time. Alex showed him the project and he said DAMN your gonna build a real ride your uncles gonna be jealous. He asked you going to out do what they did back in the days? Alex smiled and said NAH just pick up where they left off. So with that being said Edmund did his magic with a 2 pump Showtime setup.

Paint was next. Alex called upon a few other lifetime friend s of mine for their paint and body expertise. That would be the world famous team of Dion Giuliano and Brandon Lamby of Kal Koncepts and Craig Fraser of Air Syndicate. They mastermind the paint scheme with an awesome rendering of the car. It was going to be a simple house of kolor paint job with some OG pin striping. Well after hours and hours of body prep and body work, Dion called Alex and said “HOUSE OF KOLOR IS LOOKING FOR OLD SCHOOL CARS FOR THEIR SEMA BOOTH AND WE WANT TO DO YOURS!"

While the Monte Carlo was torn down for paint and body work they disassembled the car piece by piece. Alex removed all the old chrome that could be removed and called another old friend of his Peter Tapia of Anaheim Chrome in Anaheim CA. Everything that could be removed and re-chromed was redone. From the front suspension parts, under carriage parts to the back taillight bezels were all re-chromed. While looking on the internet for Monte Carlo parts that Alex could not buy or find in wrecking yards he came across an old school twisted grill. A man from Canada had it sitting in his closet wrapped up for over 25 years and decided to part with it. ALEX HAD TO BUY IT AT ANY COST. So with some negotiating he sold it to him.

Now begins the repainting of the Monte. Dion and Lamby sprayed the House of Kolor Kandy Solar gold over a white base coat. It took 4 gallons of base to get it the way the painters wanted it. From there Craig Fraser laid the Kandy root beer shades. Next came all that silver flake, patterns and multiple colors of house of kolors paint for all the patterns. Alex's ride went from mild to wild very quickly.

Alex says the without the help from his good frined, Nino Brown, he would still be working on his ride. So a big thanks to Nino for all his hard work.

The car is equipped with an awesome stereo system and an interior to match. We here at Custom Car Forums would like to congratulate Alex on his smooth ride and being February's featured ride of the month.

Thanks for the love. I have to thank my wife Yvette and my kids for putting up with my bs while building this car. I also could not have finished it with out the help of my good friend Nino Brown without his help I would still be building this car. I have some more plans for the car with a complete shaved belly painted and patterned just like the roof. Hopefully by the end of summer. I am also a member of STYLISTICS of Los Angeles California.
