Feasibility Check on a 1933 Dodge Truck Customization

Let me preface this by saying that, though I'm mechanically inclined, I don't have much experience in automotive restoration, welding, fabrication, etc.

  • Featured Ride 1982 Cadillac

This month we Feature Fred's 1982 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Fred purchased the car in 1997 from a small local dealership. He purchased this all stock white caddy for a mere 2700. By the time the car was fully paid off it was rolling 80 spoke wires and had a Red's 2 pump hydraulic setup.

In 2001, Fred felt it was time to get busy and get this car to show quality. He wanted to start with some bling, and chrome was the way to do that. The undercarriage was first. Fred met a guy who promised he could get it all done for him for an even thousand dollars. He took the car apart and the guy never came thru and left him stuck with nothing. It sat on jack-stands for 1 1/2 years. While the car was on jack-stands with no undercarriage he had an interior guy come to the house and do the guts. It looked crazy with white paint and red interior. After the car was painted by Fred's talented friend. Mbuchi built him a center console, speaker box, and custom trunk. That's when Fred met a guy named Wil. He convinced him to to buy a junk caddy to put his back together and that's what Fred did.

In 05 he bought a 1990 Cadillac to "90 out" his car. Fred's good friend Gary helped him with that task. Next was paint. He went with candy red.

In 07 Fred flew to Kentucky and drove back a 1993 big body caddy with full chrome undercarriage. He bought that car just for the chrome. When he took the undies out of the '82 my man Gary painted the belly for me in his garage. I then swapped everything over and sold the 93. I also had pinstripes and silver-leaf applied. Then my buddy Mark from USO Orlando came to my place and painted the murals. While he was painting, Fred worked tirelessly on the engine compartment adding chrome and paint. Finding more chrome on the internet helped to make things easier too. Lter he took the grill off and shipped it to LA and had it engraved. Still wanting to add more engraving, he named the car "jungle love" to pay homage to the neighborhood where i grew up in LA nicknamed "the Jungles"After all the years and about $26k invested I wouldn't change a thing

Fred, Wil and 2 other guys in the summer of 2003 founded the Orlando chapter of USO car club. Later moving to NC and starting a chapter there.

Finally the Interior is fully covered in red velvet. PPG candy red paint with pinstripes, silver-leaf, and murals in the doorjambs, quarter-panels, and engine compartment. Painted belly & full chrome undercarriage.Stock 4100 engine. Just added chrome & paint with a mirror kit under the hood. In the trunk there's 2 reds pumps, 5 batteries along with 2 twelve inch woofers that knock. The '90 panels were patterned all the way around also, 13 inch color matched Zenith Wire Wheels.
