    Z's Z28 (1991 Camaro Z28)

Picked up a project car today. It is a 1991 Camaro Z28; one of my favorite cars with I was younger. I've never had a project car so we'll see where this goes.

    The good:
It seems solid mechanically. Engine (5.7L Tuned Port Injection) is strong, transmission seems fine and suspension is good. It also has a solid body, although it needs some work.

    The bad:
It does need some exterior cosmetic work. It has been wrecked in the front and needs some body panels aligned and good sanding and painting. There are also 15 small things wrong; hood shocks need replaced, passenger window don't roll down, fog lights don't come on, etc.

Here are some pictures and I'll update this thread throughout the project to track progress.

The first project was to correct a problem with loose steering. When driving and making a right hand turn, the turning the wheel resulted in an immediate response. When turning left however, the wheel turned 90 degrees before it seemed to turn the car.

We parked the car and turned the steering wheel while looking at the components under the hood. DRLOWZ immediately noticed that the gear box towards the front of the car was moving when turning the wheel to the left. Further inspection revealed that the two bolts holding the box (found at the front of the driver side tire in the fender well) were loose. Those two bolts were tightened and the steering problem was resolved.

The attached picture shows the two bolts.

Next up, ordering a bunch of miscellaneous parts.

I read that the paint code is in the hatchback area somewhere. It should have WA with 4 numbers.

No parts have arrived yet. Today I am going to try to chase down and find out why the fog lights do not work.

    Re: Z's Z28 (1991 Camaro Z28)

Alright, got the fog lights working today. After tracking it all down with the handy volt meter, turned out to be just a fuse. Shame on me for not looking there first, figured it wouldn't be that easy. Once I checked the switch and then the wires at the lights, I decided something was wrong between the two. I couldn't seem to squeeze in the floor board to get a good look at the fuse box so I decided to take a picture of it. Was pretty easy to see then that it was missing.

This leaves me with three questions:
    1. Looking closely at the lights, the frames that hold the fog lights in are pretty rusted. Anyone know where to find two new ones?
    2. Are the lights themselves replaced or just the bulbs?
    3. From the picture, are there any more important fuses that seem to be missing?

    Re: Z's Z28 (1991 Camaro Z28)

Picked up a new hatch release button and new radio surround plate tonight from Modern Day Muscle. Ought to pick up the shifter plate but for 165, I think I'll hold off for now.

DRLOWZ: Need to go paint supply shopping soon. Would like to get everything needed for that task so I know how much money I have left. LOL
