As we start off the new year, we would like to share Bob Podgurski's 1932 Ford, as our January Custom Car Forums featured car.
Bob has been building cars and street rods since high school. Bob is no stranger from winning awards, he won his first in 1967, winning the Regional Division of Plymouth Trouble Shooting contest.
The build of the 32 came into play when Bob asked his brother to move back near the family and help him with the build. All it took was the words help me build a 1932 5 window coup, and the deal was done. Bob and his family would build the car.
The frame is hand built from 3'' and 6'' channel iron. It took the brothers about 300 hours and 500 saw blades. The body is a Glass Downs Body. The car has a Buick 12 bolt rear with a coil over setup. The Flat head has all the goodies and then some. Like one off Bonneville heads by Paul Samarian, 4 X 2 intake with fuel injection, 79 Lincoln AOD with electronic push button shifter. Super bell chrome front end. The spoke wheels and tires are an eBay find at $152.50 including shipping. All the parts are used, fabricated or eBay finds except the body it’s the only thing we bought new. Power windows, door locks, door poppers and trunk lift.
There is no air conditioning, only a flip out windshield. The paint was done by Bob's daughter for her art class project in college and they won best graphic’s at the school show. The body work was done by Bob's nephews, Ed’s kids. It took around 10 month to build and shows what can be done with time & help from family and very little money. Costing Bob only $17,000 to build.
The car is driven in rain, snow, heat and cold, day and night. The family enjoys taking the car to many shows and proud that it is driven to the show and not trailered. With trips planed for Green Bay this spring. Bob says " Street rodding can be cheap, fun, and can be a family thing".
